After an early breakfast, transfer to the starting point for an extraordinary volcanic adventure. Today you will have the opportunity to hike either Mount Nyiragongo or Mount Nyamuragira, two of Africa's most active and iconic volcanoes.
Mount Nyiragongo (3,470 m): Home to the world's largest lava lake, Mount Nyiragongo offers one of the most spectacular volcanic experiences on Earth. The hike takes approximately 4-6 hours through diverse landscapes, from lush forests to rugged volcanic terrain. At the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the glowing lava lake, a truly unforgettable sight. The crater of Nyiragongo contains a lava lake that has been active for decades, making it one of the most remarkable natural phenomena in the world.
Mount Nyamuragira (3,058 m): Known as Africa's most active volcano, Mount Nyamuragira has erupted over 40 times since 1885. The hike takes approximately 3-4 hours and offers stunning views of the caldera, which is approximately two kilometers in diameter. The volcano's name is derived from the local expression "Kuragira ngavu," which translates to "to herd cows."
